From the time I was little, I have worked hard for both myself and for others. There have been countless hours that I have put in to accomplish a goal that I have made for myself or to assist someone in need of my help. Being service-oriented, hard-working and disciplined has always played a major role in my life and has given me satisfaction and purpose.
As long as I can remember I have woken up early on Saturday mornings to wash cars, mow lawns, clean the house, or do other necessary chores. I started a business mowing lawns and doing yard work. I am determined to make my customers happy and work hard for them. My dad has always said, “If you can’t do a job right, it’s not worth doing.” I have lived by these words my whole life and have always tried to be a hard worker no matter what I am doing.
I received the Kiwanis Freedom Leadership Award in June of 2010. This award was given out to a select few that gave 15 hours of service throughout the school year. For my project I shoveled a few of my neighbors' driveways free of charge through the winter. The people that I helped could not do it for themselves and it would have caused problems for them had I not done it for them. This award reminds of the service that I was able to do and how I was able to help those that really needed it.Service is one of the most important aspects of my life. I am always willing to serve in any way possible and love the joy that service brings. I am constantly involved in organized service projects with the Young Men’s program and different school clubs. Every winter I shovel snow for my neighbors that can’t do it for themselves. I shovel 4-5 driveways to help those that are physically restricted. Service is not always easy and it always takes hard work. However, the reward is too great to ignore.
